Flat Stanley's Adventures

Some of the junior children at Lake Tekapo School, in the South Island of New Zealand, have sent their Flat Stanley’s on an adventure to Indonesia. Their class is learning about different cultures and their Stanleys are going to help out by sharing their experiences in Indonesia and maybe other destinations.

Chiang Mai

Next stop, Chiang Mai

Like Chiang Rai, Chiang Mai ended up being all about the food.

Setting up the Saturday market

Breakfast - rice soup

The scorpion I found in my room one night!

Spicy pork soup (they didn't mention that it came with pig's blood)

I couldn't eat the blood!

Pudding - it was the same texture as sago but looked like fish eggs

Prawn curry

Crispy pork

Durian and what it looks like inside

Mini ice creams

Foot spa

Chiang Rai

Next stop, Chiang Rai in Northern Thailand.

Clock tower

Every night the clock tower in the middle of town becomes a light and music show.

So many different foods to choose from at the local market.

Making my lunch

Noodle soup

Bug snack anyone?

Khao Soi (Northern Thai curry with egg noodles)

Mango and sticky rice

Hung Lay Curry

Barrab (warm minced pork salad)

My taxi to the White Chapel

Wat Rong Khun (The White Chapel)

There are silver leaves you can buy and write blessings on, then they become decorations around the White Chapel.
A blessing for Godley Class

A cone of leaf blessings

...is how this was made.

Fanciest toilets ever!

Hua Hin, Thailand

After the fast pace of Bankok, the Stanley's and I decided we needed to relax. We took a mini van to the King's holiday town, Hua Hin.

Congee (rice soup) for breakfast

Spicy thai sausage salad (I thought it was going to be cooked sausage 😔 )
Same but different

Every afternoon some local people se up stalls and this street became the night market.
The power lines look different here.

A tuk tuk truck?
