Some of the junior children at Lake Tekapo School, in the South Island of New Zealand, have sent their Flat Stanley’s on an adventure to Indonesia. Their class is learning about different cultures and their Stanleys are going to help out by sharing their experiences in Indonesia and maybe other destinations.

Ubud Market

I visited the market with a local lady. She goes there every morning at 6am to buy food for her family. The market starts at 4am. It is different to a supermarket because there are no prices. The buyer and the seller have to agree on a price they are both happy with.

  3. Hi Ava,
The 'pink stuff' is flowers. Every morning and every evening Balinese people put out blessings. They are little baskets made of coconut leaves and they can have flowers, food and water in them. They are for family members who have died, for the spirits in the sky and to keep the bad spirits below the ground.

  4. Hi Charlie,
I don't know what kind of fish they are but a local man told me I would get a stomach ache if I ate one because they had been there a long time and the flies were starting to land on them. He said the locals wouldn't get a tummy ache because they were used to that food.
